About LK Architects
Our approach focuses on developing a well-researched and intuitive understanding of the site - whether this is an existing building or landscape. We draw from the spirit of place and its narrative through time to create well-judged and elegant contemporary settings that fit people’s needs while ensuring the most sustainable use of materials and energy.
Design-led, sustainable architecture
We adopt an energy efficient approach to all of our projects, advocating air-tight, well-insulated and well-ventilated buildings as the key to reducing reliance on fossil fuels and moving towards the decarbonisation of the built environment.

In 2019 she set up Liz King Architects based in Cambridge building up a varied portfolio of projects ranging from sustainable retrofit projects, domestic extensions and house renovations, Listed buildings, decarbonisation, strategic site planning and school classroom design. The practice was incorporated as Liz King Architects Ltd in 2024. Liz loves working collaboratively with Clients and Contractors to deliver high quality and well-crafted projects with enduring value. Liz has a particular expertise in Passivhaus and Low Energy building design, with an interest in the health and physiological benefits gained from the application of natural building materials and well-insulated, daylit and ventilated spaces. In addition, she is profoundly motivated by the relationship between buildings and landscape, and she strives to create buildings that are well-attuned with their environment and physical setting.
Liz is the co-author of Small Practice: a practical guide for solo, micro and small practices published in 2026 by RIBA Publishing.
Liz has been a Director of Studies for Architecture at two colleges in the University of Cambridge and she has acted as a Design Review Panel co-ordinator on behalf of the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Team. She is engaged in a landscape restoration and management project for her local community, and for three years was Co-Chair of the Local Governing Board at a local primary school. When Liz is not working, she likes nothing more than to hang out with her family – especially when they are exploring the highlands of Scotland or walking in the Fens closer to home.
Our work and interests span domestic architecture, conservation, community-led design, landscape and low energy design
